1 - { NEWS - SENATE POLICY }
Photographer: VACANT
Publication Date: Nov. 4
Writer: Paradie (starrlily24@aol.com)
An initiative Senate is looking into is allowing students to take courses outside of their faculty and receive a simple pass/fail mark, rather than a percentage out of 100. The idea is that this would encourage students to "explore" classes they otherwise wouldn't for fear of damaging their GPA.
Get a shot (PHOTO ILLUSTRATION) of something representative of a student "exploring" beyond their classes. Maybe a head peeping through a classroom door?

3 - { NEWS - UBC IMPROV TEAM- DONE }
Photographer: Jorge Amigo / Kathy Yan Li
Publication Date: Nov. 18
Writer: Ian Turner (ianturner88@gmail.com)
Ubyssey Writer Ian Turner is going to be writing an article about UBC's Improv team. He doesn't know when he is meeting them yet, but he said he will try after one of their shows next week. "Thursday the 6th, Friday the 7th, and Saturday the 8th at 7:30 pm in Scarfe 100 and a Saturday matinee at 2pm in the smae location."
Would make for a WICKED portrait opportunity since they are most likely willing to do some really weird stuff in front of the camera. If you can't book a time with them though just go to one of their shows and take photos.
I've asked Ian to let us know when he will be interviewing, if interested try emailing him though.

4 - { NEWS - ANTI-ABORTION - DONE }
Photographer: Trevor Wolf
Publication Date: Nov. 11
Writer: Shirazeh (shirazeh@interchange.ubc.ca)
UBC Okanagan Student Union in court with abortion club. This is an investigative piece on the ongoing debate about pro-life groups on campus. Understand the history of the case, where the case is now and flesh out the broader implications for other Universities across BC and Canada.
Info: The board voted unanimously with one abstention to donate $400 to UBC Okanagan's student society who is currently fighting a $25,000 legal battle in the B.C. Supreme Court against an anti-choice student group that claims their human rights were violated by being denied funding as a student club.
Again, a photo-illustration would be nice...you can get pretty creative with this one.

UBC researchers to study impact of Vancouver 2010 Winter Games
Info: UBC researchers have been appointed by the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) to provide third-party data and analysis for the Olympic Games Impact (OGI) research project. Break the news about the goal of this committee, and whether or not it will be a sufficient arms-length body to assess the impact of the games (ie civil liberties, security measures, homeless crackdowns...etc).
Best to contact writer to see what kind of shots/portraits you can get. Possibly set up someone important at the Olympic clock or village?
