Ubyssey Photographers Unite!: { PHOTOS OF THE MONTH

Once again we had some pretty incredulous photos taken this month by all youse volunteer photographers. It was EXTREMELY hard making the decision, but, I would like to award the Photo of the Month (POTM) prize to Drew Thompson.

Drew will be receiving a $25 gift certificate to ABC Photos which is located along 4th and Burrard. ABC excel in printing services, which means the money can be put into printing out your POTM photo!!! Thought that this would be more useful than a $25 certificate for a camera store (which we all know is a useful amount for camera gear).

Thanks to all who contributed next month and keep in mind that now there is a possible award that you could win while shooting for us!!!

WHY I CHOSE THE PHOTO: The photo was taken for the FarmAde assignment early in October and captured the situation of the farm and event perfectly. The image of an innocent-looking boy eating his corn juxtaposed with the bustling atmosphere of the farm event in the background won the hearts of many staff members immediately. The boy's innocence was further amplified by the bit of corn stuck on his cheek, which made the photo for me personally. The overall effect of composition and lighting illustrated a sense of community and purity, yet was marred by a dark overcast foreshadowing of the troubles the farm will be facing in the near future.

*** I hope you guys won't be troubled by the fact that this photo didn't actually publish due to ethical reasons. The child's parents were unaware of the photo being published on a newspaper, so we had to hold it. But as I mentioned, if given permission, all the staff would have easily put it on the front page. Congratulations.
